"The Most Fun Wedding I've ever been to"

abby and ryan at little point clear in fairhope alabama hiolding their wedding caricature by wedding cartoonist kathy buskett

Funny Story. I had no idea who this couple was until I posted on my Facebook. Turns out they're a famous lifestyle influencer couple @abbyndryan

Before I ever met Abby & Ryan, I already knew they were my kind of couple.

I arrived early to Little Point Clear in Fairhope, Alabama, where a lot of Destination Weddings happen. It's a quaint and pretty little venue perfect for intimate weddings situated right near the Mobile Bay - and also right near where I live.

After I met the planner and set up my wedding cartoonist stand, I walked around and looked at everything, taking pictures like I usually do. Everywhere I looked, there was something fun for the guests to do.

Custom cornhole boards. Yard Games. Jenga. Sidewalk chalk. Even Ice cream and popsicles!

This wasn’t one of those weddings where guests sit at tables staring at their phones.

It was a wedding intentionally built around joy.

The bride’s sister, Morgan, had secretly hired me as a surprise gift because she wanted Abby to have an experience she would never forget. And honestly? That told me everything I needed to know about this family.

As the night went on, the room stayed full of laughter. People crowded around the caricature stand, watching drawings, talking to strangers, and cheering each other on. (That's the norm for a wedding with a wedding cartoonist, by the way)

Then came the best part: The reveal.

Morgan finally revealed the surprise to Abby.  Don't ask me how she kept it a surprise for the whole day, but Abby and Ryan were pretty busy with all the wedding things.

I didn’t get a photo of the reaction because I was drawing at the time, but I’ll never forget it. Abby's reaction was priceless.

Later, when I drew Abby and Ryan together, they told me they’d started as friends first after meeting through their church youth group. They were sweet, fun-loving, genuine people. The kind of couple that cares more about creating memories with friends and family rather than putting on a performance.

And honestly? Those are my favorite weddings to be part of.

Your wedding is the most important day of your life.

You want to trust it to someone who truly knows what they’re doing.

Not just someone who can draw fun, cartoon-style caricatures that actually look like the person sitting (I’m told I do 😉).

Not just someone who can draw FAST (I’m one of the fastest caricature artists in the world at 20–30 faces per hour).

But someone who knows how to make the experience genuinely FUN for your guests.

Someone who interacts with them.

Puts them at ease.

Jokes around. Makes them laugh.

And has your guests walking away saying:

“That was actually REALLY fun.”

That’s what I do.

Meet Your Wedding Cartoonist

My name is Kathy Buskett, and I’m a wife and mom probably a lot like you or your own mom.

I've also been drawing live cartoon-style caricatures professionally for 27 years.

I’ve entertained at events all over the country, including 10 years on the Las Vegas corporate circuit, and I’ve drawn my cartoon-style caricatures at hundreds of weddings.

Your wedding is in good hands with me.

So if this sounds like something you’d love for your wedding,

let’s set up a quick chat and see if we’re a good fit for each other.

Bring on the FUN

What having a wedding cartoonist at your wedding is like

If you’ve ever been to a wedding where you saw a wedding cartoonist or a wedding caricature artist, then you know what it’s like and I don’t really have to describe it to you.

But if you’ve never been to one, it’s really not like any other kind of experience you’ve ever had before.

Unlike some wedding artists who sit quietly in a corner and draw from photos, wedding cartoonists interact with your audience, leave them laughing, and having a great time.

Imagine all of your friends and family comparing their drawings, laughing and saying, “Oh, you look like your father!” and “I’m gonna hang mine on my wall!” and “I’m gonna take mine to my car right now so nothing happens to it.”

At the end of your wedding, you get so many compliments on what a great idea this was and how much fun it was, you’re not going to believe it.

So what does having a wedding cartoonist at your wedding actually look like?

It's as easy as 1,2,3!

1. I arrive early and get set up before your guests ever walk into the room. All I need is a small space and 3 chairs. I often recommend setting up near the bar or somewhere with a lot of foot traffic because people LOVE to stop and watch.

2. As your guests mingle, grab drinks, and enjoy the reception, they can walk up and get drawn. Most people have never had their caricature done before, so it's something they're genuinely excited to participate in.

3. At the end of the night, your guests leave with something personal they’re genuinely excited to take home — and you leave with a wedding people are still talking about long after it’s over.

Why my Wedding Cartoons Are Such a Hit at Weddings

ring bearers enjoy getting their caricature at an outdoor wedding in Hattiesburg, MS

Ring bearers enjoy getting their caricature at an outdoor wedding in Hattiesburg, MS

• They’re entertainment AND wedding favors all rolled into one

• They give your guests something genuinely fun to do during the reception and help keep people from getting bored or disappearing onto their phones

• They create laughter, conversation, and interaction between guests who may have never met before

• Unlike most wedding favors, people actually get excited about them and want to take them home

• Guests often hang their wedding cartoons on their wall, refrigerator, or office for years, which means your wedding stays part of their memories long after the night is over

• They work for all ages, from little kids to grandparents

• My wedding cartoons are flattering, fast, and actually look like the person being drawn

• Because I draw so quickly, I’m able to entertain and draw far more guests than most caricature artists can

• And most importantly, it’s not just a drawing. It’s an experience your guests remember.

 Wedding Cartoonist FAQ

a flower girl gets her caricature at the pensacola yacht club in pensacola FL

A flower girl gets her caricature at the Pensacola Yacht Club in Pensacola, Florida

 Are your drawings mean?

Not at all.

I draw people in a fun, flattering, cartoony style that actually looks like them. My goal is for your guests to laugh because they LOVE the drawing — not because they’re being made fun of.

That’s one of the reasons my wedding caricatures are so popular even with guests who are normally nervous about being drawn.

Can you match my wedding theme?

Yes — and honestly, this is one of the MOST fun things about my wedding cartoons.

I can customize the cartoons around your wedding theme including:

Beach weddings, enchanted forest weddings, Disney-inspired weddings, Bridgerton-inspired weddings, tropical weddings, seasonal weddings, fairytale themes, national park themes, and more.

I can also create funny or romantic themed scenes inspired by movies, travel, hobbies, or your personalities as a couple.

If you can dream it up, I can probably draw it. The more creative, the better!

How many guests can you draw?

I’m one of the fastest wedding cartoonists in the country and can typically draw about 20–30 guests per hour depending on the style selected and how many couples or families are being drawn together.

For larger weddings, I usually recommend black and white because it allows me to draw more guests while keeping the line moving quickly and the energy high.

The bride and groom always receive color, and for smaller or more intimate weddings I can also add color, themed bodies, backgrounds, or extra details to make the experience even more special.

How long should we book for?

My official recommendation for weddings is 4 hours, which is the average length of a wedding reception from the time guests enter until the exit at the end of the night.

For very large weddings, additional hours can easily be added à la carte if needed.

For smaller or weekday weddings, I can sometimes offer shorter coverage options depending on the situation, so it’s always worth asking.

Where do you usually set up?

My favorite placement is near the bar, drinks, dance floor, DJ, or wherever guests naturally gather.

People tend to grab a drink, wander over to watch the artwork happen live, and before long it naturally becomes part of the entertainment itself.

My setup is compact and simple. I work on an upright easel so guests can gather around and enjoy the experience together.

Typically all I need is:
• Three chairs
• A small space about the size of a desk
• Room for my easel

Because I use dry media instead of watercolor, guests can immediately take their artwork with them — no drying tables or extra space needed.

Do you travel?

Yes! I’m based on the Gulf Coast and regularly travel throughout coastal Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, coastal Mississippi, and southern Louisiana including New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

Some of my most common wedding areas include:

Mobile, Fairhope, Daphne, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Dauphin Island, Pensacola, Navarre, Biloxi, Pass Christian, Gulfport, and Panama City.

I also travel inland to places like Hattiesburg and beyond.

And yes — I absolutely travel nationwide for weddings.

If you’d like to fly me in for your wedding, I’d be happy to discuss it.

What if my wedding is outdoors?

Outdoor weddings are completely fine as long as there is shade or an indoor backup option available during extreme heat or weather.

If weather suddenly changes, moving my setup indoors usually only takes a few minutes.

Do you draw couples and families?

Absolutely.

In fact, that’s one of the things that sets me apart from many caricature artists.

I regularly draw couples, groups, and families together, which makes the artwork feel even more personal and meaningful at weddings.

Do you offer color drawings?

Yes! For smaller and more intimate weddings I can absolutely offer color caricatures.

For larger weddings, black and white is usually the better option because it allows me to entertain and draw more guests during the reception.

The bride and groom always receive color.

Do you work with additional artists?

Sometimes. For extremely large weddings, I can occasionally help couples secure a second artist if given enough notice.

However, because of my speed, many weddings discover they don’t actually need one.

And when I do recommend another artist, I only recommend artists I personally trust with weddings and guest interaction. Your wedding day is too important for anything less than the best.

How far in advance should we book?

Most couples book me anywhere from 6 months to a year in advance, especially for popular spring and fall Saturdays.

That said, it is ALWAYS worth asking about last-minute availability because occasionally I do have dates open.

I also offer reduced-rate rehearsal dinner coverage when available, which has become a very popular gift from parents, bridesmaids, siblings, and close friends.

Can caricatures be given as a wedding gift?

Absolutely — and they often are.

Many of my weddings are gifted by parents, bridesmaids, siblings, cousins, or close friends looking for a unique experience-based gift for a couple who values memories and guest experience over “stuff.”

Do you offer custom artwork before the wedding?

Yes! One of my most popular options is a custom caricature welcome sign/sign-in board featuring the couple.

Guests can sign around the artwork during the wedding, creating a keepsake you can actually display in your home afterward instead of storing away in a box somewhere.

How much does a wedding cartoonist cost?

Pricing typically starts around $1,000 for a local cocktail-hour wedding near me.

Final pricing depends on:

• Number of hours
• Guest count
• Color vs black and white
• Travel distance
• Custom themes or special requests

Most couples simply reach out, tell me a little about their wedding, and I put together a custom quote based on what fits them best.

How do we book?

The first step is simply reaching out.

We can chat by phone or email — whichever you prefer — and I can answer any questions you still have about how everything works.

If you decide to move forward, I’ll send over a booking agreement with all the details including pricing, timing, policies, and everything needed to officially reserve your date.

And because weddings are important, my agreement includes protections for both sides.

In the extremely unlikely event that I could not make it to your wedding (which has never happened in my 27-year career), your retainer would be fully refunded.

And if something unexpected happens on your end and your date changes, retainers can often be transferred to a new available date or even another event.

How Do I Hire a Wedding Caricature Artist in
Alabama, Florida, Mississippi or Louisiana?

Hiring a wedding caricature artist is actually pretty simple — but choosing the RIGHT one can make a huge difference in your guest experience.

Start by searching for terms like:
“Wedding caricature artist near me”
“Wedding cartoonist Alabama”
“Wedding caricaturist Gulf Coast”
or “live wedding artist.”

A true professional wedding Wedding Cartoonist/ Caricaturist will have a professional website that actually answers your questions instead of just showing off their gallery of art.

One thing many couples don’t realize is that some of the big wedding websites are “pay to play,” meaning vendors often appear based on advertising budgets instead of experience or quality. Instead of relying only on giant directories, spend some time looking at the artist’s actual work, social media, reviews, and website. Look at MANY sites where they are listed, not just one or two.

A great wedding caricature artist should be able to:

Draw FAST enough to keep lines manageable (ten minutes per person may sound fast but in actuality it's far too long!)
Create flattering drawings that actually look like your guests
• Entertain while they draw
• Interact warmly with people
and keep the energy fun
• Have real wedding experience — not just festival or street work

When looking through portfolios, ask yourself:
“Would I actually want this hanging in my house?”

You’ll also want to ask:

• How many guests can you draw per hour?
• Do you draw couples and families together?
• Do you travel?
• Do you offer black & white or color?

• Is your color wet or dry? (wet takes time and space to dry)

• Can you match our wedding theme?
• How much space/setup do you need?
• Have you worked weddings before? How many?

• Can you give references?

Most experienced wedding caricature artists book well in advance, especially during spring and fall wedding season in Alabama and along the Gulf Coast, so it’s smart to reach out early.

And finally — talk to the artist personally.

Your caricature artist is interacting directly with your guests all night long. You want someone who is not only talented, but kind, professional, and genuinely fun to be around.

Years from now, your guests probably won’t remember your monograms or even the food.

But they WILL remember laughing together while watching their wedding caricatures and cartoons come to life.

Your Wedding Should Be Full of JOY

A couple laughs at their wedding cartoon at a weddng at Bellingrath gardens in Theodore, Alabama

Years from now, your guests probably won’t remember the custom koozies from your wedding.

But they WILL remember how your wedding felt.

They’ll remember the reactions.
The laughter.
The feeling that your wedding was genuinely fun to be at.

And long after the music stops and the night is over, many of them will still have their cartoon hanging somewhere in their home reminding them of your wedding day and the people they shared it with.

Because at the end of the day, here's what your friends and family will really remember:

Joy.

If that sounds like the kind of wedding experience you want to create, I’d love to hear more about your wedding and see if your date is available.
