A Wedding Story I’ll Never Forget
Every wedding creates moments no one plans for. The ones that stay with you long after the day is over.

Deja & David – The Plant Venue, Jackson, MS
When Deja first reached out to me, she was nervous.
She and David had already gotten married a year earlier. Life, military schedules, and logistics had pushed their celebration back, but now, on their one-year anniversary, they were finally doing the whole thing.
The dress.
The DJ.
The cake.
The photo booth.
Everything you’d expect from a wedding reception.
Still, Deja worried.
Would it feel strange to celebrate a year later?
Would guests feel disconnected?
Would it feel like something was missing?
What she really wanted was something joyful. Something interactive. Something that would bring people together — and give her guests something meaningful to take home, not another favor that would end up forgotten in a drawer.
So she hired me to be her wedding caricature artist.
What she couldn’t know yet was how deeply that choice would land.

Some Live Wedding Sketches at Deja's Wedding
The reception was held at The Plant in Jackson, Mississippi — an old factory turned into an industrial-meets-botanical venue, complete with indoor greenery and an eclectic vibe. It was whimsical. Romantic. A little Bridgerton, a little garden party, a little urban loft.
Perfectly them.
Once the celebration began, I started drawing and settled into my rhythm.
The line never stopped.
Guests laughed.
They watched.
They came back with friends.
They tucked their drawings under their arms like treasures. Many even made trips out to their cars just to keep them safe.

Deja and David Cut Their Cake
The cake cutting happened right near my setup, and I got a perfect view — even snapping a beautiful photo of the couple with their cake.
Then, late in the evening, something happened that I’ll never forget.
An older couple came up to be drawn.
The woman was in a wheelchair. The husband gently positioned the woman in the wheelchair in front of me. She had a condition that made it hard for her to hold her head up on her own.
I’d worked in nursing homes before. I knew she wouldn’t be able to hold her head up for long.
I hesitated — not because I didn’t want to draw her, but because I wanted to do it right.
Before I could worry any more, her husband stepped in.
He gently cradled her chin in his hands and held her head up for me.
She smiled — and suddenly I could see that she was actually quite beautiful.
As I began to draw, the room seemed to fall away.
They were in their own little world.
I drew her quickly so that they didn’t have to stay in that position for long.
As I was drawing, the husband whispered something in her ear. She smiled even bigger.
The love between the two of them was so touching that I had to blink back tears.
There must have been something in my eye.
When I finished her sketch, I told her husband he could let her rest.
He took a seat next to his wife and her head drooped down on her chest again. She was tired. That was a lot of effort.
I drew the gentleman, and then I gave it the once over, shaded a little bit more here, added an extra line there.
And now the moment everyone was waiting for. I was ready for the big reveal.
Would they like it?
I held my breath and turned the pad toward them.
For a moment, neither of them said a word.
Then they both broke into big smiles.
They loved it!
The wife was all smiles. I rolled it up for them. The husband thanked me and carefully unlocked her wheels and carted her away.
I took a breath, wiped my eyes and kept going.

The Father of the Bride & one of their sons
Later that evening, I was talking to the father of the bride. He and his wife were taking a breather and grabbing a bite in the kitchen.
“When my daughter said she was hiring a caricature artist for her wedding, I said…
A WHAT?” he said, scrunching up his face. I laughed.
“But you’ve been the best thing here tonight. People were lined up all night long.”
His wife nodded.
“Everyone was talking about it,” she said.
“And you know those folks in the wheelchair?” he added.
“They don’t ever get pictures taken. Anywhere. Neither of them. But they got one with you.”
Then he said quietly, “That was my mom and dad.”
I caught my breath. Those folks I drew with the wheelchair were the grandparents of the bride.
“You made their day,” his wife said.
“I’m so glad,” I said — and again, I’d got something in my eye.
Oh this is so why I do what I do.
I’m so grateful for this job. I always wanted to help people. And this is how I get to do it.
One drawing at a time.
“I’m so thankful my grandparents were able to be there and have this sweet memory forever.”

Winter 2024
David & Deja are both in the military and they wanted to get married so they could be deployed together.
So they said their vows and waited a year and had a big blowout of a party on their anniversary date.
No one minded and it was exactly like a traditional wedding reception in every way.
Except of course, they had me drawing Caricatures as their wedding entertainment. What a Blast!
I see this "delay" between the ceremony and the reception quite a bit these days and if this is you, please know that this is totally normal and we in the wedding industry see this all the time!
Everyone had a BLAST at their wedding, and no one minded the gap at all!

A Second Chance at Happiness
....and a Touching Happy Ending
Jennifer and Scott had both been married before.
This time is going to be different. They're older. Wiser. And a lot less likely to fight over the last donut.
Their wedding was a huge New Orleans style party. Of course it was. They live in Ponchatoula, LA which is just a hop skip an a jump from N'Awlins.
I had the time of my life at their wedding. And since I'm a wedding entertainer, that's saying something.
The one thing the bride, Jennifer, really wanted, was to make sure her mom, who had just been put on hospice, was able to make it to the wedding.
We also had predictions of bad weather and it was supposed to be an outdoor ceremony. I told her I'd pray for her.
Guess what? it didn't rain til much later in the evening AND most importantly, Her Mom was able to be there for her Big Day.
Obviously I can't take credit for that. But I'm so glad it worked out for Jennifer.
There were lots of tears that day. The good kind.

Disney Themed Wedding
Fall 2024
This bride's stepmother, Jennifer, hired me as her wedding gift to the bride and groom.
She knew they were going to mention their favorite film that was their unofficial and unconventional wedding theme: Disney's Hercules.
When the SMOB (step mom of the bride) hired me,
she really wanted me to draw the couple as
Hercules and Meg.
So I did! It was challenging but FUN!
I managed to keep it a surprise until the reveal.
Here's their reaction:

I have Ever Done
Maybe Yours will Beat them!
I absolutely LOVE doing themed weddings. The reason this one was so special was because
1. The theme was really unique and
2. It was a surprise to the bride and groom and
3. Their reaction was amazing!

What a Great Gift this would be for a Bride and Groom, especially if they already have everything they want and need.
This is why I do what I do.
I can't tell you how rewarding this is, to make a beautiful young couple starting out their life together something special - a gift just for them - that they will cherish the rest of their lives.
