Before you build your wedding website on The Knot wedding website, there’s something you should know.
While The Knot wedding website and WeddingWire are still the go-to for brides-to-be, there are plenty of good reasons to think twice before relying on them.
Let’s talk about it.
There have been some pretty serious concerns raised about how The Knot wedding website operates—especially when it comes to advertising practices.
According to a Forbes article (link below),
“Former employees and vendors charged that the company has falsified national advertising reports, sold prime ad space for a premium that ultimately delivered little value, and altered contracts after terms had been finalized.”
Now, The Knot wedding website has denied these allegations—but still…
If you take five minutes and Google The Knot reviews, The Knot complaints, or The Knot wedding website reviews, you’ll find plenty of frustrated vendors and brides sharing their experiences.
Here’s the Forbes article:https://tinyurl.com/mvhewrc7
And here’s a vendor experience:https://www.dreamweddingshawaii.com/the-knot-scam-dont-buy-into-their-advertising-opportunities/amp/
If they’ll do that to vendors, you can bet your boots brides aren’t immune.
Now let’s talk about the biggest reason brides use The Knot wedding website in the first place
Reviews.
Because reviews are supposed to help you feel confident about your choices, right?
But what happens if those reviews aren’t always the full picture?
Here’s a real bride’s experience:
“I recently had an honest, legitimate one-star review of a horrendous vendor taken down from the Knot…”
(She goes on to explain that their system allows reviews even if you didn’t book the vendor—but somehow hers still got removed. And another one-star review disappeared too.)
That’s… concerning.
If reviews on The Knot wedding website can be removed, it raises a fair question:
How complete is the picture you’re seeing?
Let’s talk cost for a second.
Advertising on The Knot wedding website can run vendors around $4,000 a year.
That’s not a small number.
By comparison? I spend less than that on all my other advertising combined.
And here’s something I personally ran into—
When I tried to contact The Knot website about adding a category for live artists (caricature artists like me, wedding painters, etc.), there wasn’t a clear path to talk to a real human unless I was entering a sales process.
That was my experience.
There is no clear way to contact them unless you’re ready to sit through a sales pitch.
And this part surprised even me.
The Better Business Bureau currently gives The Knot a rating of F.
That’s the lowest possible rating.

The good news?
You have options.
If you’re building your wedding website, registry, or vendor list, there are plenty of alternatives to The Knot wedding website:
There’s Zola
There’s the wedding chicks
And there’s
Heck there's even Gigsalad.com
Or honestly?
Just Google:
“wedding vendors near me”
Skip past the big ads for The Knot wedding website and look for vendors with consistent five-star reviews across multiple platforms.

Here’s what it comes down to for me:
I’ve found in life that if someone is questionable in small things, it’s worth paying attention.
So if there are concerns about how The Knot wedding website handles advertising or reviews, it naturally leads to a bigger question:
How much weight should you give to what you see there?
That’s something every bride should decide for herself.
It’s kind of like saying you got the best food from the worst-rated restaurant in town.
Is it worth it?
Probably not.
The upshot?
Not the knot.
Anything but the Knot
Seriously.
