Louisiana Wedding Caricatures at The Oaks Venue in Ponchatoula – Ana & Zach’s Celebration”

Some weddings feel like carbon copies of each other. This was not one of them.

At Ana & Zach’s wedding at The Oaks Venue in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, the energy was pure chaos in the best possible way. I’ve worked at The Oaks before, and every time it’s been unforgettable. This one? Oh boy.
Let’s just say one “dirty uncle” thought it was hilarious to keep touching my knee—right in front of his wife. She just rolled her eyes like this was nothing new. Don’t worry, I had my revenge: his caricature got creatively adjusted with my marker. (If my husband had been there, that guy would’ve been toast.)
The ceremony didn’t even start until 7:30, so by the time I set up at 6:30 the guests were already piling inside instead of under the oak trees. But here’s the thing—once the music started, nobody sat still. The bride and groom danced in my chair while I drew them, and half their guests were dancing right along with them. That never happens! Usually people freeze up when I start sketching. Not this crew. They were all about it.
No wonder they wanted a late wedding—they were planning to dance until sunrise. And honestly? We almost did. I packed up around 11:30pm (before I turned into a pumpkin), and the DJ shut it down.
I would’ve driven the 2.5 hours home like I usually do… but not this time. Why? Because I had already been up since 7am taking my son to a reenactment of the War of 1812 massacre at Fort Mims. (Talk about a contrast—massacre in the morning, marriage party at night!)
One lady even saw my son in his tricorn hat and asked me if there were French at the massacre. I had to laugh—nope, just my over-enthusiastic, ADHD son showing off his history trivia to anyone within earshot. He embarrassed me all day.

And you know what? That’s the common thread between the massacre reenactment and this wedding: ADHD energy. People like us need to move, and when there’s music—we dance. I’m not saying Ana and Zach had ADHD, but let’s just say their wedding at The Oaks Venue in Louisiana felt like home to me.
A Little Love for The Oaks Venue 🌳
This was actually the second wedding I’ve drawn at The Oaks Venue in Ponchatoula, and both times were incredible. The first wedding I did there, the owners even asked me to be one of their preferred vendors—which makes perfect sense, because their whole vibe is partying into the night. And honestly, that’s exactly what Louisiana wedding caricatures are all about: keeping the energy high, giving guests something to laugh about, and sending them home with a keepsake they’ll treasure forever.
