Caricatures in Vegas - I mean, at the Daphne AL Prom

There are certain events that I look forward to drawing caricatures at every year. This is my second year doing the Daphne Prom, but it has fast become one of my favorite events.

This year the prom theme was Las Vegas - and I just happenmed to have lived in Vegas for about a decade before moving here to Daphne, Alabama (following family) - so it was a nostalgic event for me too.

I love working with young prom couples (and singles too), encouraging young artists, and talking to them about about their lives.

A handfull of them are ones I drew last year. This year, they are seniors.

Many of them are graduating and moving on in just a couple of weeks. They’re excited. Nervous. Sometimes outright scared.

I love giving them a little encouragement and letting them in on what the rest of us know - that it may be scary now but once you have your own place and you’re on your own, there’s nothing like it!

I also love the fact that many of these young people have never had a caricature drawn so they’re all reacting and seeing theirs for the first time.

You’ll also note that there was a 360° Video booth near me. A lot of the kids got sketches, but there was one very short little video that I took that kind of says it all.

Also keep in mind a few of these kids wanted to be “done dirty” which just means more exaggerated. I ONLY do these by special request. So if you see a few crazy ones, keep in mind:
