This weekend I had the joy of drawing live caricatures at Kristy & Garrett’s western-themed wedding at the beautiful K5 Saloon at Florry Farm in Louisiana. The venue was something out of an old movie set —
From the outside, the venue looked just like a charming little western town — complete with saloon-style storefronts — and inside it opened up into a warm dance hall and kitchen perfect for celebrating.
Guests gathered on the lawn for the ceremony, surrounded by the rustic charm of a the western backdrop.
And let me tell you — their guests understood the assignment! Cowboy hats, boots, and western gear everywhere. It was like stepping into a country fairytale.

A Sweet Surprise Reunion
As I started drawing, I noticed a couple sitting down who looked familiar. Suddenly it hit me — they were a bride and groom I had drawn earlier this spring! That’s how Kristy found me for her own big day. One of my favorite parts of this job is how word-of-mouth and happy guests connect me to new couples.

Dry doesn’t mean Dull
This was a Christian wedding — a dry wedding too. And let me tell you, dry doesn’t mean dull! 🙌 In fact, that’s one of the best reasons couples bring me in: caricatures keep the energy joyful and guests entertained without needing a bar. For Kristy and Garrett, faith was front and center, so when I drew their caricature I made sure to include a little chapel with a cross behind them. I even sketched them “coming down the aisle after they got hitched” — western pun intended! 😉
Choosing Caricatures as the Main Entertainment
What touched me most was Kristy’s choice to make caricatures the entertainment for her wedding. She didn’t hire a band or even a DJ — just a playlist, a speaker, and me. 💖 It’s always humbling when a couple invests in caricatures as the centerpiece of their wedding fun. I never take it lightly that they trust me to create memories for their family and friends.
A Toast to Tears (Yes, I Still Cry at Weddings!)
One of the most emotional moments of the night was when the groom’s mom gave her toast. With tears in her eyes, she said she had finally gained the daughter she always wanted. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room — including mine. (Yes, I still cry at weddings, and I don’t plan to stop. Once upon a time an ex-boyfriend told me I “cry too much.” He can shove it. 😂)

Why Rustic & Country Weddings Love Caricatures
Western, rustic, and country weddings like Kristy & Garrett’s are such a perfect fit for caricatures. Guests come ready to laugh, mingle, and take home keepsakes that last long after the boots are put away. Caricatures bring people together and give everyone — from the flower girl to grandma — something to treasure.
✨ Kristy & Garrett, thank you for letting me be part of your incredible day. I loved every moment.
